“American Race”

One of the featured artists for the upcoming show American Race, Aileen Bassis combines images and mixed media to create sculptural objects which create an immediate and emotional impact on the viewer. Her work looks at violence, hatred, anti-Semitism, child abuse, racial and social inequality, the Holocaust, 9/11, immigration, and a variety of other social issues. Using themes which escalate into various political and social realms, this body of work moves the viewer from the numbness of inactivity to active participation in the world around them.  Aileen holds a BA in Studio Art and is a self-taught photographer and teacher in New Jersey. “Art is the desire of a man to express himself, to record the reactions of his personality to the world he lives in.” Amy Lowell
