I was downtown this past weekend and found two really cool NEW businesses open on the square. At 108 N. Franklin, next to the beauty school, a new gift shop called Blink of an Eye opened about a month ago. The owners, Katherine & Keith Jackson, created a small unique boutique filled with jewelry, scarves, purses, and tons of other really awesome knick knacks, and the prices are very reasonable. Saturday, during the Red Barn Arts & Craft Festival, from 12 – 4 pm, 88.7 the EDGE will be doing a live remote from the Blink of an Eye. Make sure to stop in.
Also open, just in time for the festival, Don Kangas opend a new coffee house called the Upper East Side. The coffee house is located at 202 N. Franklin just across the street from Hidden Treasures. They are open from 7am – 7pm and offer a variety of coffee drinks, kolaches (a Czech sweet pastry filled with fruit), Belgian waffles, and other breakfast items. They also offer homemade soups (some vegan) and sandwiches for lunch or dinner. Stop in and grab coffee before the Red Barn Festival on Saturday.
Don’t forget the Red Barn Arts & Craft Festival, Saturday from 9 am – 4 pm. There will be music and dance performances throughout the day and a children’s activity center will be available for a nominal fee.
While you are downtown stop in at the Kirksville Arts Association Gallery and view the current exhibition Paintings of Clara Straight.
