Another artist from the American Race exhibition, Paul R. Solomon, is an Associate Professor of Art in the School of Art, at Western Michigan University. Solomon’s photographic art has been published in a variety of art magazines and exhibited in galleries across the country. In the photographic series “Jones Beach” Solomon examines the socially acceptable practice of “sun tanning”. The photographs focus on the perception of skin coloring and stimulate the viewer to evaluate his or her own assumptions regarding racial bias and skin coloring.

Over the weekend I will be looking at the work of Chido Johnson and Robert Gerhardt.
