On February 8, 2010 @ 6pm come to the Kirksville Arts Center and enjoy the opening of Mementos from Kirksville Vietnam War Veterans. A light snack and drinks will be served.
A group of students under the guidance of Dr. Julia DeLancey (Art History) and in conjunction with the community wide project “The Big Read” have designed an exhibition based on The Things They Carried, a novel by Tim O’Brien. The show features interviews and memorabilia from Kirksville Vietnam Veterans as well as posters and historical information from and about the Vietnam War. The exhibition runs from February 8 – 26 for hours at the Kirksville Arts Center call 665-0500.
“The Big Read” is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. This program is designed to restore reading to the center of American culture. This program gives communities the opportunity to come together to read discuss and celebrate one of 30 selections from U.S. and world literature.
