Last week of faculty exhibit and Gallery Talk with Ceramics Professor Wynne Wilbur

Wynne Wilbur will be speaking today at 4:30 in the University Gallery about her work and sabbatical in China.

Light refreshments will be served, we hope to see you there!

The Faculty Exhibition will come down on Friday, so be sure to stop in the gallery before then.

End of the Semester Senior Shows

Hello! As the school year comes to a close, there will be a different shows featuring Senior Capstone artwork for final three weeks of the semester.

This evening’s reception featured the work of Katie Brewer and Tori Hudson in painting as well as Andrea Linskey, Lauren Radix, and Emily Frierdich, in ceramics. Their show will be up through the end of the week.

Next week’s reception will be April 30th at 6 p.m. in the University Art Gallery, featuring students completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts. Lona Moody, Toni Brister, and Jake Wittrock in painting, Jonathan Moeller in printmaking, and Erica Robertson and Lauren Thomeczek in ceramics will be presenting their works.

There will also be Visual Communications Portfolio Samples in the Side Gallery at this time.

Finally, for one night only, on Monday May 6 at 6pm their will be a Visual Communications portfolio display featuring Ashley Buhmann, Tracy Cheung, Linh Dao, Andy Doering, Corey Felter, Becca Greiner, Wes Harbison, Ryan Haskins, Kristin Henry, Anne Kramer, Shelby Maggart, Duy Pham and Alyssa Vannoy.

It’s that time of the year again! Truman State University’s Department of Art is now accepting artwork for the juried student art exhibition, opening March 5

All students who have taken an art class at Truman are encouraged to submit as many as 4 pieces created as part of their Truman experience.

Submission dates are:
Friday, February 22 12-4 pm
Saturday, February 23 12-4 pm
Monday, February 25, 9 am to 6 pm

Did we mention that you can WIN CASH by participating in the juried student art exhibition? Because you can!

Our guest juror, Professor Mike Sleadd of Columbia College will award $300 in prizes and the Student Union Building will buy two pieces for $250.

As our most popular show, students are provided with the opportunity to not only build their resume and portfolio, but gives them an opportunity to sell some of their work and gain exposure.

All declined artwork must be picked up on Wednesday, February 27 by noon.

Welcome back!

The gallery is into full swing for another semester as guest artist Peter Fine and writer Carmen Gimenez Smith of New Mexico State University will be visiting next week!

Combining creativity and scholarship, Peter Fine is a professor of Graphic Design at NMSU and is completing his book Graphic Design: Sustainable Principles and Practices to be published by Berg Publishers in 2014.

Carmen Gimenez Smith is the recipient of a 2011 American Book Award for her memoir, Bring Down the Little Birds (University of Arizona, 2010) as well as the 2011 Juniper Prize for Poetry, and a 2011-2012 fellowship in creative nonfiction from the Howard Foundation.

Their show, “dis_assemblage” incorporates lyric essays with collage and will be held in the side gallery.

Events with the artists will be held on Thursday, January 24 in the Truman State University Art Gallery in Ophelia Parrish.

A gallery talk will be held at noon. Please feel free to bring your own lunch.

Carmen Gimenez Smith will hold a reading at 5 pm, followed by another talk.

An open reception will be held at 6 pm. Refreshments will be provided
